Beijing is probably the most interesting city in China: Forbidden City, the enormous palace where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties used to live, the Tiananmen Square, which is located right across the Forbidden City, the Great Hall of the People, the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong, the Summer Palace which is a UNESCO World Heritage and the old Summer Palace. Beijing was also host to the Olympic summer games in 2008 with its innovative National Stadium, the Bird's Nest. If you don't like tourist masses and smog, visit Beijing in January or February; it is extremely cold but nearly no smog! Don't leave Beijing without climbing the Great Wall of China, which is located approximately two hours outside the city and it is an absolute must to try the Pecking duck!
