19th Street in Chinatown Yangon
19th Street in Chinatown - review by Nicole Allmann
Style: Local Food Stall
, off of Mahabandoola Rd , Yangon
Price: from 800 to 2.000 MMK per person for a 3-5-course menu with beer; USD $1-3 per dish
The myriad of restaurants on 19th street in Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon) is a must experience when it town. It is easily accessible off of Mahabandoola Road in the Latha Township otherwise known as China Town. The area is relatively quiet in the day time but come 5 pm, pop up restaurants and food stalls claim the street with tables and portable barbecue grills. This barbecue haven carries throughout the road from Mahabandoola Road up to Anawartha Street.
There are many food stalls, restaurants, and open air pubs to choose from. There are also air conditioned restaurants should the weather get too humid for your liking. Most of the locals come here to unwind after a day’s work on Fridays and to wash away worries with cool beer and cocktails on Saturday evenings. Most of the eateries offer grilled seafood, vegetable stir fry, and barbecued specialties. Try the fried crickets if you want an unforgettable meal!
