DOMINICA - the best insider tips for vacation, holiday & travel
Dominica Island in the West Indies is dubbed as the Nature Island of the Caribbean can be found in between Guadeloupe and Martinique. 290 square miles of unspoiled natural beauty, lush primordial forest, volcanic peaks, rugged terrain, amazing coral reef, more than 300 fresh water rivers, dozens of lakes and waterfalls, and the biggest boiling lake on the planet awaits travelers who have not yet visited this well kept Caribbean gem. Climbing, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, bird watching, whale and dolphin watching, and soaking in nature’s natural springs are just some of the activities in store for Dominica visitors. Make sure to witness the natural splendor of Boiling Lake and Titou Gorge, Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, the Carib Indians territory and their canoe shaped altar at Salybia Church, Champagne natural hot springs, and any of the 3 national parks on the island.
Dominica Island gets plenty of rainfall so the best time to visit is during dry season during the months of
December to April but light rain showers occur even then. Average year round temperature around the coast is 75-85ºF but it may get as low as 55-65 ºF around the forest and up in the mountains. Getting to Dominica Island by plane means either flying to Canefield Airport on the south west coast or to Melville Hall Airport on the north east, mostly via connecting flights from San Juan. High speed ferry transfers to Dominica Island’s capital city of Roseau are also a good option if traveling from St. Lucia, Martinique, and Guadeloupe.
