HAWKES BAY - the best insider tips for vacation, holiday & travel

Hawkes Bay stretches from the hot and dusty Mahia Peninsula to Cape Kidnappers, with the bay itself looking as though it has been bitten out of the Island’s coastline by a prehistoric giant. The area has a sunny climate, beautiful surfing beaches, old vineyards, fertile farms, mountain ranges and wild woodlands.

Hawkes Bay is famous for the wine it produces and wonderful, lazy days can be spent wandering around the vineyards that are dotted around the area and enjoying a delicious and liquid lunch in one of the many winery restaurants.

There is a wide range of visitor accommodation available in the area with some of the hotels offering great rates in the off peak season and Cape Kidnapper’s Golf Course which has been ranked amongst the top 50 in the world is open to and welcomes visitors.

Whales can be seen off the coast of Hawkes Bay at certain times of the year; charter local cruises take visitors to the most likely places to spot the mammals but sometimes they are also clearly visible from the coastline.

The best time to travel to Hawkes Bay is the summer months between December and February.
