KST, or the technical sciences students’ club dates back to 1954 when it gained an official club status by the university board, making it the oldest club in Belgrade. At first, it was just a chess club situated in a lab where students performed experiments during their regular classes. Throughout the sixties, they widened their area of activity and hosted numerous cultural events, film screenings and dancing evenings. It was only in 1969 when the club opened the very first discoteque to be seen in the region. Ever since, this exclusively student-run club has gained and retained its cult status and trust due to high safety measures which ensure carefree fun. It is a matter of prestige for a band to have a gig here, and numerous producer and stage manager names started their careers at KST. During the nineties, the club was beloved for rebellious rock scene, ranging from punk and metal to alternative. With the general change in music tastes and style profiling of the students and former students, KST has specialized in themed evenings in the course of the last decade, thus rendering gothic nights, popular foam parties, electro nights and other types of parties targeted at different subcultures. Still, what’s really interested is that KST became a city trend setter, triggering retro parties such as eighties or crazy nineties themed nights. There’s just one phenomenon more famous than everything previously mentioned. It’s KST’s New Year warm-up fancy dress party, an event not to be missed if you’re in Belgrade around the festive season. It’s always a memorable party with the main stage, reggae stage and even an outdoor courtyard stage. The costumes are mostly standard, like Star Wars characters, French maid or Car Woman, but each year there are original people you just need to make pics of as soon as you spot them. KST is mostly attended by younger people, obviously university students, but also by older generations who have fond memories of this legendary club. Drinks are affordably priced and security measures are of the highest standard, which is their trade mark.
