LIVINGSTONE - the best insider tips for vacation, holiday & travel

Livingstone (also known as Maramba) in the Southern Province of Zambia is a historic city that was colonized by the British and named after the explorer who first visited the town – David Livingtsone. It was established in 1905 and was made the capital of the region in 1911 until 1935 so many facilities and colonial buildings were built during its glory days. Today, its historical charm and proximity to River Falls and Zambezi River makes it a great base camp for tourists who want to explore Zambia.
The Historical Gallery, Art and Ethnography Gallery, Railway Museum and Livingstone Museum (oldest in the country) are just some of the interesting places to see around town for history buffs.  The Collard Memorial, Saint Andrew’s Church, and Northwestern Hotel are some of the many buildings that architectural enthusiasts may visit. Adventure seekers have a wealth of exciting activities to take part in like tandem kayaking, safari game drives, canoeing, horseback riding, swinging off of a gorge at Victoria Falls, jet boating, fishing to name a few. Going on a boat cruise that goes by the Mosioatunya Park where crocodiles, hippos, elephants, giraffes and other exotic animals may be seen is a must when touring Livingstone. The city also has an 18-hole golf course surrounded by 118 species of trees and a beautiful botanical garden and has a historic clubhouse that has a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and gym. The Curio Market at Mukini Park in Livingstone and Maramba Cultural Village in Victoria Falls are best places for buying textiles, arts, and crafts and other Zambian souvenirs.

Livingstone and the rest of Zambia have a subtropical and humid climate with wet and dry seasons. The best time to visit the region is from July to October (peak season when daytime temperature averages from 78-93 °F) when tourists need not worry about flooding and may be able to enjoy all the activities that Zambia has to offer.
