NEW ORLEANS - the best insider tips for vacation, holiday & travel

Though severely affected by the devastating hurricane Katrina, New Orleans remains to be one of the top tourist destinations in America. Also known as the “Big Easy”, this huge city hosts a number of exciting elements that’s truly remarkable: Creole/Cajun cuisine, soothing jazz music, famous festivals, nearby plantation and swamps, ancient architecture, streetcars, and museums. Tourists can get here by air via the Louis Armstrong International Airport.

Millions of tourists gather every year for the well-known Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest festivals as well as other small festivals like Creole Tomato Festival, French Quarter Festival, Saint Patrick’s Day, and the sponsored Essence Festival among many others. New Orleanians love celebrations, taking almost any occasion as an excuse to hold parades, live music, and parties. But contrary to the reputation that the “Big Easy” is an adult-oriented district, there are also a lot of children and family friendly attractions to visit. There’s Audubon Zoo, Storyland Amusement Park, a number of museums, streetcar rides, riverboat cruises, and some historical day tour packages.

New Orleans’ proximity to Gulf of Mexico is accountable for its mild and subtropical weather, making it an all-year perfect holiday destination. Its longest season is summer, from late April to beginning of October, where temperatures are usually hot and weather is fairly humid with occasional rainfalls and thunderstorms. September and October are most enjoyable, with daytime temperature averaging around 29°C. However, hurricane season overlaps summer and winter beginning around June through November. Winter is brief and mild during the months of December to February with average daytime temperature of 17°C. Occurrence of snow in New Orleans is very rare. March marks the start of spring, with long sunny intervals and regular rain showers.
