Otherwise known as The City of Roses of Oregon State, the city of Portland is an interesting city that has much to offer for tourist of all interests and all ages. The city is divided into several districts that are either east or west of the Willamette River and the wonderful Waterfront district would be a great place to start with in exploring Portland. Tom McCall Waterfront Park offers beautiful vista and it is where the biggest annual event is held - The Rose Festival where there is a floral parade, fireworks, flower shows, and dragon boat racing. Downtown Portland is where attractions like the biggest bookstore Powell’s Books, infamous bacon and maple Voodoo Donuts, bustling Chinatown, Jamison Square, Portland Art Museum and many art galleries. Upscale shops, boutique galleries and restaurants can be found in the cobbled stone streets of Pearl District.

 

Old Town Portland points of interest include the historic Shanghai Tunnels or the Portland Underground, beautiful Chinese Gardens, Rose Test Garden, and it is where the hottest nightlife spots can be found around Portland. Nature enthusiasts may visit Multnomah Falls or Washington Park and the Oregon Zoo.  Families with children can visit the Oregon Museum of Science, Oregon Rail Heritage Centre, Portland Children’s Museum, and Oaks Amusement Park.  Souvenir shoppers should make it a point to visit the Weekend Market on the west end of Burnside Bridge, the Bohemian vibed Hawthorn District, and the antique shops in Sellwood. Portland tourists should make it a point to visit Stumptown Coffee Roasters and to ride the Aerial Tram to see panoramic vista of the city skyline.

 

Portland or PDX experiences a temperate oceanic type of climate and the best time to visit is during their summertime during the months of June to August (average daytime temperature of 80-90 °F). Late March is also an ideal time to visit if you want to spot celebrities attending the Faux Film Festival. Wintertime, although wet and cold, offers skiing and snowboarding opportunities at Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood.
