Andina restaurant in the bustling Pearl District of Portland is an exquisite eatery that offers Peruvian and North-western Andean fare.  Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt opened the restaurant in 2003 to pay tribute to her family’s Andean roots by using the freshest local ingredients in creating splendid Peruvian specialties. The ambiance her is relaxed’ the decor is swanky. Expect a large crowd of eclectic people stopping in for lunch after doing a tour of shopping areas and checking out the cultural scene in Pearl District or locals enjoying an evening meal before hitting the colourful nightclub scene in the area. There’s also eclectic live music entertainment at Andina but the star is of course the amazing food. Must try dishes include lomo saltado, pescado al rocoto (roasted fish served with sautéed vegetables and quinoa fried rice), various ceviches, grilled octopus kebobs in chimichurri, and bistec novoandino (filet mignon with oyster mushroom salad). The vast menu also offers gluten free, vegetarian, and great happy hour (4 – 6 pm) and bar menu.

It would be ideal to call Andina weeks in advance to make reservations. They are open daily from 11:30 am until midnight.

The bustling restaurant does not take reservations for brunch and it is almost always jam packed so be prepared to wait for a table to open up. Enjoying dishes like Norwegian potato crepes, Danish pancakes, solstice bord, salmon fishcakes, and hamburger a la Lindstrom will surely make one conclude that it is worth the wait. An interesting list of international beers and wines are also on offer.


Brunch and all day breakfast at Broder starts from 9 am until 3 pm daily; dinner is served on Wed-Sat evenings from 5pm until late; Happy hour is from 5pm - 6pm.

Bunk Sandwiches, like the name suggests, is a hole in the wall sandwich shop that has earned international acclaim. They already have two in demand shops in town, the original one on Morrison in Southeast PDX and the second one is Downtown on 6th Avenue. Owners Nick Wood and Tommy Habetz are ordained as Sandwich Gurus because of their unbelievably great creations. Their most famous and most ordered menu item is the Pork Belly Cubano that has generous layered slices of slowly roasted meat and ham, pickles, and slathered with mustard and Swiss cheese. Their pork belly Vietnamese Bahn Mi, Italian Cubano, and pulled pork sandwich are also crowd favourites.

The bustling eatery is open daily from 8 am until 3 pm and is almost always crowded. Long lines are to be expected but most diners leave within 10-15 minutes. Bring a friend who can scout for a seat and place an order while waiting in line. Bunk Sandwiches also offers delivery and catering via their food truck.

The ambiance at Little Bird is relaxed and the décor simple yet stylish, with red banquettes, hanging plants, and of course plenty of bird images.

The Charcuterie and soups are must try starters. Recommended entrees include duck and pork cassoulet, pork shoulder glazed with sherry, and hanger steak frites. The inventive desserts are also superb. There is a short but impressive wine list.

Little Bird is open from 11:30 am until midnight on weekdays and from 5 pm until 12 am on weekends. Reservations are advised.

Chefs and real life partners Gabrielle Quiñónez and Gregg Denton opened the restaurant doors in early 2012 and they have already made an indelible mark in the Portland restaurant scene as a much loved neighbourhood restaurant mainly because of the amazing menu and also because of the trendy and vibrant ambiance of the eatery.

OX is a meat lovers’ haven and is arguably the best steak joint around town, but they also offer vegan and fish. Other must try menu items include spicy braised octopus with beef tripes, chimichurri, Marcilla (blood sausage), cocoa braised lamb, ceviches and the fiambres/charcuteries. Delicious cocktail mixes are also on offer.

OX accepts reservations for parties of 6 or more people.  Book the Chef’s Table if you want to impress a date. They are open from 5 pm until late on Tue-Sun nights.
