Comstock Saloon set in a historic building in Chinatown is a lively restaurant and bar where whiskey connoisseurs and fans of saloon style American fare converge in San Francisco. In the day time, it is a classy and casual lunch spot that is laid-back and lit up by sun roof. At night, it is one of the busiest bars in town mainly because of the innovative cocktail mixes, the trendy jazz music, and the old world SanFo atmosphere. A 20 foot handsome mahogany bar with a working absinthe fountain that is a 150 year old, a cozy paisley print wallpapered parlor room, and a small mezzanine from which muppet hecklers, jazz trios, and piano players perform all throws back diners to the days of famous mining magnate Henry Comstack.

Come by for lunch on Fridays and you get a free prix five lunch if you buy two adult beverages. Must try signature dishes include the duck pot pie, lamb with bone marrow, pan roasted king salmon, and delicious maple and bourbon pudding.

Comstock Saloon is open from 4 pm until 2 am daily (open for lunch at noon on Fridays).

Maven is a sleek and stylish addition to the lower Haight restaurant scene which opened last December 2012 but is already a busy hotspot for locals who seek great brunch meals and exceptional evenings. The classy place was decorated by Gi Paoletti. There is private seating and three long communal tables, a chef’s counter by the open kitchen, and petite mezzanine with a cozy fireplace.

Chef David Kurtz and partner Jay Bordeleau offers great tasting food coupled with delicious cocktails. Each dish has a partnered drink, which diners may or may not order, but they are soooo gooood that most people go for it. The menu is quite small with only ten dishes with either distilled or fermented drink suggestions, plus draft or bottled beers, wines, and mind blowing cocktails.

Maven is open on weekdays from 5:30 – 11:30 pm, and on weekends from 11 am until 11:30 pm.
