Kemang Icon by Alila
Kemang Icon by Alila – the problem with relying on aesthetics alone is that eventually, you’re bound to be found wanting in other departments. Fortunately for Alila, they recognised that visual impact alone wasn’t going to draw the diverse kind of clientele they attract today, nor help them retain the kind of reputation that other brands pay extortionate fees to achieve.
With a modest twelve suites set over two floors, the Kemang Icon is one of Jakarta’s smallest design boutique hotels, yet what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in style, convenience and comfort. Conceived by Sardjono Sani, one of Indonesia’s most celebrated interior designers, The Icon melds urban minimalism with sophisticated Asian influences for a finish that is edgy, elegant and organic. Each suite has a unique theme, yet benefits from thoughtful extras such as an iPod docking station, free Wi-Fi, LCD television, full-size refrigerators and mini-bar, coupled with complimentary L’Occitane toiletries.
Situated in the up-and-coming Kemang neighbourhood, less than 30 minutes drive from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, The Icon is a great base from which to explore Jakarta’s trendy bars and clubs, including the infamous Buddha Bar, and Buzz Cafe which offers an exciting menu of over 60 unique martinis. Of course, if you’d prefer not to venture too far after dark, The Icon boasts its own fair share of wacky cocktails and scintillating company up on the roof terrace bar. By day, there’s plenty to do on-site; relax in the rooftop infinity edge pool with breathtaking views across the city; enjoy a spot of yoga at the fitness centre, or head downstairs for some all-out pampering at the five-suite spa and wellness center – there’s peace to be had, even at the heart of a buzzing metropolis!
