Restaurant Andante Allegro Vivace is a warm and cozy Italian eatery that offers authentic homemade Italian favourites. Owners Elena Urrea Stoico and John David aspired to have a relaxed homey space where people can come to enjoy traditional flavours of Italian cookery with fine wines and they have successfully done so. The interiors are simple and also traditional; right down to the checkered red and white table cloth. Live music entertainment lightens up the mood. Book a table on the upstairs balcony if you want a little more privacy.
Everything on the menu is guaranteed to be delicious. Their menu changes often to feature seasonal ingredients but staples include home-made pasta, octopus carpaccio, veal with tuna sauce, crab ravioli, and Mediterranean squid brochetas.

Club de Pesca is an atmospheric waterfront restaurant on a private pier at Fort Pastelillo San Sebastian, one of the historic city’s forts. One of the main draws of the restaurant is the amazing view of the passing yachts and boats by the dock. For a more unique experience, diners may also arrive via boat from their docs in Bocagrande, or downtown Cartagena. The restaurant has been around since 1956 so they must be doing something very right!
The menu offers traditional flavours in elevating the taste of fresh catch of the day seafood and locally sourced ingredients. Apart from traditional taraditos and ceviches, and grilled seafood, they also have more modern dishes like crab risotto with bamboo shoots, prawn and langostine in wasabi sauce, and a few meat dishes like herb crusted rack of lamb in port and tomato sauce. The red snapper Pargo Rojo is a famous specialty. The extensive wine list offers Spanish, Italian, Argentinean and Chilean fine wines.

FM Restaurante is a gorgeous restaurant with a very relaxing and elegant ambiance. Owner Francisco Montoya picked the perfect setting in a 300 year old historic home which has a lovely patio that makes for a great leisurely lunch spot. The dining room is also charming and the live piano music entertainment at nights makes it even more enticing. The upscale eatery is somewhat of a gallery because its walls are adorned with artworks from many photographers and painters.
The seasonal menu features locally sourced produce mixed with Mediterranean flavours. Stars on the menu include lobster sautéed in brown butter, succulent shrimp with Mediterranean sauced penne, roasted loin of pork with fettuccine bersaglieri, and duck comfit in cep sauce. Restaurante Donjuán in Cartagena is a wonderful Basque-Mediterranean fusion restaurant by Chef Juan Felipe Camacho located in an elegant but relaxed bistro. The celebrated chef has worked under multi Michelin rated chefs like Pedro Subijana, Martin Barasategui, and Juan Mari Azrak. The restaurant interiors are at par with the food quality having an atmospheric top notch setting designed by the chef’s wife – Maria Pinto of the Pinto Design Group.
Chef Camacho lets natural flavours of the ingredients take center stage with dishes like king prawn and crayfish risotto (a must try!), beef sirloin with crab, potatoes, and chimichurri sauce, and fall off the bone tender oxtail stew. The grilled octopus, lobster risotto, and sinfully delicious chocolate mousse are also crowd favourites. Their wine list is quite extensive (mostly Chilean and Argentinean) and can be seen stacked tall on the shelves that adorn the wall of the colonial house.

Tabetai Sushi Bar
Style: Trendy Fusion Sushi
If you’re hankering for some sushi then the best option would be Tabetai Sushi Restaurant. The restaurant near Plaza Fernandez de Madrid is quite petite with only 5 tables and a decent sized bar so it is almost always jam packed. They do not accept reservations so there might be a long queue but you can hang out at the bar while waiting for a table. The interiors are quite hip and designed by co-owner Roberto Carrascal. There are cute origami cranes floating by the ceiling and the mesh noodle-like lighting creates a cool effect.
The menu was created by co-owner Edgar Ramos who ingeniously mixed Japanese techniques with local ingredients and flavours. There are also traditional kinds of sushi but everything on the menu is exquisite. Diners can also choose different combinations of Temaki, Maki, Tempura and Nigiri variants. Make sure to try their ceviche like temaki that is to die for!
