The Buckhorn Exchange
Style: Iconic American Steakhouse and Museum in Denver
The Buckhorn Exchange, the very first pub and grub establishment in the state of Colorado, is a must visit eatery when in Denver.
The restaurant has been open since 1893 and it embodies everything we hold to be true about the Wild West movies that we have seen on screen. The main dining area is also a museum showcasing a 125 gun collection, many taxidermist displays, and all sorts of western memorabilia. The upper floor is a covered roof garden where there is a gorgeous white oak bar and live music entertainment on some nights of the week.
The menu is a meat lover’s delight having all kinds of steaks and some fish and game options too. Stars on the menu include prime rib buffalo steak, barbecued baby back pork ribs, Colorado lamb steak, and old school pot roast from Grandma Fanny’s recipe dating back to 1893.

Style: Old Western Style Buffalo Steaks
The historic The Fort Restaurant that was constructed in 1961 to be a home for the Arnold family, designed after the all adobe Bent’s Fort, opened its doors in 1963 as an eatery featuring specialty dishes from the Wild West.
The upper level became their home and the ground level offered meat and game dishes that were conceptualized from a fusion of native Indian tribes’ cuisine, dishes prepared by men from the mountains and those who travelled along Santa Fe Trail, and flavours introduced by Mexicans and Spanish traders.
Today, the spacious restaurant, having 9 dining rooms and a courtyard, serves the most number of buffalo steaks throughout the country (they cook all parts of the buffalo too) and offer adventurous dishes made from rattlesnake and alligator. Make sure to try the roasted bison marrow, buffalo t-bone or sirloin steak, and their signature drink served in mason jars – the “hailstorm” cocktail.
The Fort is open daily from 5:30pm (5pm on Sat/Sun) onwards.
