The ambiance here is friendly and relaxed; the décor simple but pleasing to the eyes. Trattoria Ai Portici is set in the heart of the very beautiful Baroque style Piazza in Martina Franca is an exquisite eatery offering upscale local cuisine. Trattoria Le Zie Cucina Casareccia is a humble yet flavour packed eatery situated in a private home. More known to locals as Le Zie meaning “at aunt’s”, the restaurant, owned by Chef Anna Carmela Perrone, has been serving regional cucina povera meals (cooking style of the less fortunate) and Salentine dishes since 1966. Guests have to right the bell (yes an actual old school bell) to call the attention of the host and announce their arrival. The host then leads guests to the dining area where the kitchen is visible so they can eagerly wait as the chef prepares the mouthwatering meal. Traditional Lecce fare like dishes made from horse meat in fiery piccante salsa, orecchiete al sugo, torta boconotto, and poppettoni di vitello (cheese stuffed meatballs) are some of frequent diner favourites.
